How to re-flash MK802 firmware or upgrade MK802 firmware

The MK802 is a tiny computer that fits in the palm of your hands. It looks like a slightly bulky USB flash drive, but it actually has a processor, RAM, storage, and I/O ports, which make it a Mini PC. Just for reference, the MK802 is approximately 8.8x3.5x1.2cm which is about 3.5x1.4x0.5inches, and weighs about 1 ounce.

The MK802 is Designed to run Google Android 4.0( now the lastest version in market is android 4.0.4), It also has a 1.5 GHz Allwinner A10 ARM Cortex-A8 processor, and 4GB of storage, 512MB or 1GB of RAM.(there are only those two memory size in market now).

The MK802 also has a microSD card slot for extra storage, a mini HDMI port for connecting an external display, a full-sized USB port for a keyboard, mouse, or other accessory. The device also has a mini USB port which you can use to power the MK802, connect it to a computer, or plug in peripherals.

Once you finished the download, here is the instruction for how to re-flash the firmware:

1 Decompress the MK802_recovery.rar file to a folder on your PC.
2 Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the MK802_recovery directory and locate the subdirectory called “livesuit” and open it.
3 Double-click the LiveSuit.exe file.

4. Choose the SelectImg option to choose your recovery image and then locate the en-us-NEW2-ak003.img file in the MK802 recovery directory.

5. See those two small holes on your the front of the MK802 by the HDMI port? One is for the status LED. Poke a paperclip in the other one to press down on a button and while you’re holding down that button connect your MK802 to your PC using a USB to mini USB cable.

Note: If you’ve already installed the drivers and this isn’t your first time using LiveSuit to install a firmware update, you can probably skip ahead to step 10… or just sit back and let the software do its thing. It pretty much runs itself from here on out.

6. Your computer will find new hardware but won’t be able to install the drivers properly.

7. Open the Windows Device Manager and look for an “Unknown Device.”

8. Right-click on the device and select the option to “Update Driver.”


9. Choose the option to “Browse my computer for driver software” and navigate to the livesuit directory and select the “UsbDriver” folder.


10. As long as LiveSuit is already running, once Windows successfully installs the drivers the app should recognize your device and start installing the firmware.


11. If it does not, you can click the SysUpdate icon to get started.

12. You may see a message asking if you want to overwrite all of your settings or keep your apps and settings in place. Choose the option that best suits your needs.

13. Once the process is complete, unplug your MK802 and disconnect the power source if it’s using a separate one, then plug the power (or USB cable) back in to turn it on and boot into Android again.

How to use a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, game controller on a MK802

The MK802 Android 4.0 Mini PC is an inexpensive tiny computer with an Allwinner A10 processor, USB port, mini HDMI port, and 802.11b/g WiFi. You can plug in a keyboard or mouse, a TV or monitor, and use it like a desktop computer.

While the MK802 doesn’t include a Bluetooth wireless chip, it turns out there is a way to pair a Bluetooth keyboard mouse, keyboard, game controller, or other peripheral with the little computer.

If you’re running the software that comes with the MK802, simply plugging in a USB Bluetooth dongle won’t be enough. But you can replace the version of Android that comes with the MK802 with CyanogenMod 9 — a custom operating system based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Some users have found that this is all they need to do in order to get some Bluetooth dongles to work with some Bluetooth accessories.

Others have found that they need to apply an additional patch to add support for Bluetooth.

The procedure may be a little tricky for beginners, but if anything goes wrong there’s a safety net — you can use the LiveSuit software to restore the MK802 to its factory condition.

How to use skype on an MK802 Android 4.0 Mini PC

MK802 Android 4.0 Mini PC is the smallest Android TV player in the world,it looks like a USB flash drive, twice as big as a USB stick,but compared to a regular small Android TV box,the size is only 25%. You can attach it to the back of your TV, easy to hide.

It outputs the video to TV via HDMI, a short HDMI cable is included, it requires your TV to have a HDMI input.

How to use skype on an MK802 Android 4.0 Mini PC?

That last one is an odd choice — because the MK802 doesn’t have a mic or camera. But it is possible to plug in a USB camera and use the MK802 to make video calls.

MK802 user genosyde has put together a tutorial for setting up the MK802 to make Skype calls.

In a nutshell, there are only two things you have to do:

    Update your MK802 to the latest firmware

    Find a mic, webcam, or headset that works with the MK802

You can take care of the first step by downloading the rev .2 firmware from the Rikomagic UK forum and following our step-by-step guide for updating or restoring your firmware.

The second part is a bit trickier, since not every mic or camera will work. You can find a list of devices that are known to work in genosyde’s guide.

With some webcams only video works, and with others only audio works.

Possibly the best option at the moment is the Microsoft LifeCam VX-700. You can pick one up for $18, and both the mic and camera work with the MK802 Android 4.0 Mini PC.

One of the questions people ask me most frequently about the MK802 is whether you can use it for Skype. It’s nice to see that the answer is yes.

The little computer has an HDMI port and USB and microUSB ports. It’s meant to be plugged into a TV and used with a keyboard or mouse. But if you plan to hook up a webcam, you should be able to use a USB hub so you can connect a keyboard, mouse, and camera.
